Rewilder January 2023 Update

Rewilder is a crypto-native non-profit that coordinates the global purchase of land for wildlife conservation.

Hi Rewilder Community!

First things first, we have some exciting news to share with you all. We have signed an agreement with AMBÁ, a local non-profit based in Uruguay, to have them purchase and manage a piece of land for us. AMBÁ is an interdisciplinary team driven by a goal to preserve and regenerate the biodiversity in Uruguay. After much research and consideration, we decided to partner with AMBÁ instead of doing the land purchase on our own. They have a wealth of experience managing wild land and have worked with other non-profits for this end in the past.

We also realized that our value is more in helping conservation non-profits embrace blockchain technology for fundraising and donation impact tracking. Purchasing and managing wild land ourselves turned out to be much harder than expected, and we’re not ready for that yet. To that end, we had to open a bank account, which was something we had originally promised not to do. We tried really hard to do everything in crypto, but it was impossible in a reasonable timeframe. A great part of our delay in purchasing land was because we tried and failed to stay away from banks. We ended up transforming our USDC from our Gnosis Safe to USD in a bank account owned by our Rewilder Foundation (thanks Ripio Select!) so that AMBÁ can buy the land.

Together with AMBÁ, we found a splendid 100-acre plot of wild land in Rocha, Uruguay, which is right next to their 10-acre Regeneration Center. The current owner is a 80-year-old nature enthusiast who was happy to sell us the land for conservation purposes at a friendly price. The partnership with AMBÁ will allow us to expand their regeneration efforts in Rocha and create a larger protected area for native plant and animal species to thrive in. This is a huge step for us, and the culmination of a long learning process. We hope to update your donation receipt NFTs with information on the land as soon as the purchase is finalized. This will happen in the next 3 months, so stay tuned!
